Day 36 – Jesus Calls Us Friend. April 10, 2019
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other. John 15:9-17
Jesus really is a friend that is closer than a brother. Part of abiding or remaining in Jesus, is keeping or obeying His commands. Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command.” Jesus lays His life down for His friends, and there is no greater love than this. We are to do likewise and lay our lives down for Him. Not counting our lives as our own, but allowing Him to guide us and command us. And His command? Love one another. When we do this Jesus’ joy will be in us and our joy will be complete. Jesus calls us Friend.
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me Friend. I am not always the best friend to You. Please forgive me for not remaining in Your love. Help me to love others the way You loved me. I want to lay my life down right now for You…it is Yours, it belongs to You. Do with my life as You please. Fill me with Your joy and make my joy complete in You. Thank You for loving me, as the Father loves me. Amen.
